Ostuni, the so called white city, is in a strategic place to visit the Puglia. This has to be your base for a holiday in Puglia. Firstly, because it is such a beautiful city, and it is possible in a day trip to visit all the other Puglia area, as the Valle d'Itria, Lecce, Salento and the Gargano.
Ostuni, white with light and lime, overlooks the Adriatic sea, offering to the visitor in all its radiant beauty. It has developed beside the sea, from which it is just six kilometres away. It presents a landscape full of charm and fascination.
But this is not all that makes up Ostuni, entrusting oneself to a "classic" guide may deprive the visitor of the pleasure of discovering it, step by step, in the wealth of its landscapes and in its rich historical, artistic, folkloristic and human heritage.
At the top of the hill, there are several churches, as well as the cathedral, which was begun in 1435 and completed in about sixty years. Its façade dates back to the late Gothic and above the main doorway is a magnificent 24 segment rose-window. Inside the main style is Baroque, and in one of the chapels on the right is the "Madonna with Child and Saints" by Jacopo Palma. The archives contain precious parchments from the 12th century. The Seminary and the Bishop's Palace are Baroque.
Ostuni's marina is twenty kilometres of multiform coastline bounded by the typical Mediterranean scrub vegetation and is complete with all kinds of tourist facilities.
Regarding the beaches they are sandy and clean and suitable for swimming for all ages.
The Marina's seaside towns are Torre Canne - Pilone - Rosa Marina - Monticelli - Villanova - Costa Merlata - Torre Pozzella. Market day is held on Saturday mornings.
